You will be asked to sign the following
Self Reporting Instructions
A very important part of the License to
Carry (LTC) or Firearms Identification Card (FID) application process is the
self reporting. Even though a background check is done on every applicant
by the Massachusetts State Police and the Seekonk Police Department, every
applicant must answer each question on the application truthfully and honestly.
Failure to do so would be in violation of MGL Ch. 140 Sec. 131 and will
also result in your application being denied.
There are no time limits on these
questions. Example: If you were arrested or charged with a crime thirty
years ago, you must disclose it regardless of the outcome of the charges.
If you answered YES to a question on a previous application you must answer YES
again.
Question #10 asks, "have you ever
appeared in court as a defendant for any criminal offense". This could
have been the result of an arrest, a summons or any other means that you faced
criminal charges in court. If you have appeared in court as a defendant
you MUST answer yes no matter what the disposition was. This means not
only a guilty finding but not guilty, dismissed, continued without a finding,
nolo or any other disposition your case may have resulted in MUST be disclosed.
Many motor vehicle charges are criminal, such as OUI, Suspended License,
Endangering, Hit and Run, etc., and must be disclosed.
If any of these questions are answered
incorrectly you will be denied. If you have been in court facing a
criminal charge it is and experience you will not forget, therefore claiming
that you "forgot" will not be an accepted excuse for non disclosure. If
you have a question as to how a question should be answered please ask.
